Treatment of expression and age-related wrinkles

Botulinumtoxin A (Vistabel®)

The reasons why wrinkles form in the face are quite disparate. The skin's natural aging process, facial muscle play, individual habits and the environment all influence wrinkle formation.
One method of counteracting wrinkle formation is treatment with botulinum.

How does botulinum work?

The injection of botulinum impedes the transmission of nerve impulses in the facial muscles, which are responsible for our facial expression. This prevents the facial muscles from contracting in a targeted manner.
Botulinum thus takes aim at the cause of the wrinkles, if they are brought on by mimetic muscles.
This works especially well for crow’s feet, forehead and brow wrinkles.
Botulinum is most effective when the wrinkles to be treated are not yet too deep. A combination of botulinum with a “filler material” (such as hyaluronic acid) can be taken into consideration if the wrinkles are deeper.

Botulinum can also be effective when applied to the lower half of the face, but it should be deliberated on based on the individual case at hand. Newer techniques make use of botulinum for reducing radial wrinkles on the upper lip, fine cheek wrinkles as well as for treating sagging cheeks.
Botulinum is also very well suited for ameliorating the severity and frequency of migraine attacks. In select cases, health insurance may cover the costs of treatment upon submission of an application.

Hyaluronic acid

Subcutaneous injection beneath facial wrinkles is an uncomplicated treatment carried out by the plastic surgeon which has immediate effect. In the process, highly cross-linked hyaluronic acid (such as Restylane®) is injected into the tissue beneath the wrinkle in the skin. This raises the wrinkle, thus making it less visible.

This treatment is uncomplicated in trained hands, but the prior assessment of the unwanted wrinkles and the application of a proper technique by the plastic surgeon are of decisive importance. Because not every wrinkle is actually suited to receive a subcutaneous injection.

Another option for treating the first signs of facial aging is improving the skin structure by means of biorevitalization (mesotherapy) with natural, uncrosslinked hyaluronic acid (such as Hyal-System®).

We additionally offer you consultation with skin analysis conduced by our medical cosmetics specialist, Mrs. Carola Reck, in order to optimize the duration of effect and results of the individual treatments.
